CATHEDRAL CHURCH IN PAZARDZHIK
CATHEDRAL CHURCH IN PAZARDZHIK
The Church of St. Bogoroditsa is a cathedral church with a nave and two aisles, which was built in 1836-37.
Today, it is one of the symbols of Pazardzhik and the larges church from the Bulgarian Revival period.
It preserves some of the most remarkable icons in Bulgaria by master artists of the Debar School, wood-carvings of New and Old Testament scenes, and icons by Stanislav Dospevski.
The iconostasis impresses with fine workmanship and exquisite decoration – unique combinations of geometrical ornaments, animal and human figures entwined in compositions depicting biblical scenes.
